Spartanburg, SC August, 9th 2017: Noonan Racing was excited to be out on track at Darlington Raceway, South Carolina last week. Team owner and driver, Jamie Noonan, said “it was great to finally put some passes down the racetrack and to start our 4.9” bore space engine journey”. “It was my first drive in 3 years but I felt really comfortable in the car, the engine performed and we couldn’t have asked for a better engine at the end of the day”. He described the day as “HOT. The track temp was 143 degrees, making the conditions extreme for the 4.90” debut! Despite this we ran through the 660ft markers with a best of 3.53 at 220mph, putting it within range of Joey Severances best ET’s”.
Darrell Makins, engine tuning expert and newest member to the team at Noonan Race Engineering, was suitability happy “we wanted to get some laps down so that we could learn from the experience and be able to advise and support our customers with their own journey. I haven’t worked with a 4.90 billet engine before, so for me personally, I was impressed with the performance and engine capability at the end of the day. I am looking forward to getting out there again”.
Next stop for the Noonan team is with their newly acquired, Jerry Bickel made, 1968 Pro Mod Camaro, driven by John Zappia for some testing and racing at PDRA’s upcoming event at Tulsa Raceway Park – 2017 Summer Nationals. Jamie and Darrell will be on hand to tune and manage the car’s performances. We will keep you updated through the Noonan Racing page.
